I found an interesting article, which talked about how the lemon laws in California apply to different types of vehicles. It got me thinking and it was time to research. So, here are the results. The truth is that if you are stuck with a lemon car, and have a big car repair bill AND a dealership problem, you might get help. The catch, your car must be in warranty.

If your new vehicle has manufacturing defect, that directly affects functioning and safety of the vehicle, then you can simply hire an advocate, or get help from car consumer helpline, or a lemon car helpline to get help.

Even if your car doesnt work as is described by manufacturers guideline, you can still get a full refund, as long as there is a warranty.

Lemon laws in California cover almost all vehicle types and also used vehicles while there are some states that do not cover certain types of automobiles and used cars.

If you have indeed purchase a lemon, there are a few ways in which your interests will be protected by the lemon laws in California. You can either choose a replacement for the vehicle or monetary compensation equal to the purchase price. This compensation will also include any additional expenditure that you may incurred to procure the vehicle such as sales tax, registration charges, repair charges, towing expense and finance charges.

The latest buzz word in car repairs is the acronym S.M.A.R.T . The acronym SMART stands for Small, Medium Area Repair Technique.

This amazing car repair formula is allegedly saving car owner’s a lot of moolah. According to SMART repair boys, the customers save money by repairing only damaged areas of a vehicle. There is no longer a need to repair an entire vehicle surface for a scratch on the bumper or a dent on the door panel. All vehicles experience the need for repairs somewhere down the line.

Dents and scratches can damage more than the exterior of the vehicle. There can be considerable damage done to the monetary value of the vehicle as well. For this reason, it is highly advisable that car repairs be completed as soon as possible to prevent any further damage from occurring.

Smart car repair services aide fleet operators, car hire services, car dealerships and consumers in obtaining inexpensive auto body work. This can be routine maintenance or large repairs caused by big dents or other exterior vehicle damage. Many utilize the services of a smart car repair shop for touch up work for cars, vans and motorcycles.

A variety of car repairs can be completed utilizing this revolutionary technique. A few items on the list include:

Scratches to door panels Scratches to front and back bumpers Scratches to wheel arches Dents to any portion of the vehicle exterior Smart car repairs are not limited to the cosmetic exterior of a vehicle. Interior blemishes can also be repaired. These include rips in the upholstery, small holes in plastic trim, windscreen chips and cigarette burns to seats, dashboard or other interior structures.

Repairs are limited to the damaged areas of the vehicle only. This dramatically cuts down on the cost of auto body work as it creates less time consuming repair projects. Specially designed paints and chemical based paints can be matched virtually identically to existing paint. This eliminates the need to repaint the entire vehicle for a repair job in a tiny portion of the vehicle.

This special paint dries in half the time of stock auto body shop paints. Repairs are done on site and all products needed are in stock. These two components alone significantly contribute to the dramatic cost saving methods of smart car repairs.

Some of the costliest auto body repairs lie in damaged or broken bumpers and spoilers. Smart car repair utilizes plastic welding and finishing techniques on the original vehicle pieces. This process eliminates the need for auto body shops to send out for replacement parts. In return, customers are not stuck paying a bill that includes costs for the down time between ordering replacement parts and having them installed on the vehicle.

Moving inside the vehicle, fabrics and upholstery can be repaired without needing to remove all of the interior fabrics, vinyl and leather. Cigarette burns, stains and spills brought on by everyday vehicle use can easily be repaired at little cost to the customer.

Smart car repairs are changing the way auto body shops do business in the future.

Many car accidents are just insurance scams that consumers end up paying for through higher premiums.

Are you as an American consumer aware of car accident scams and frauds? Are you aware that there are car consumer helpline in California and other states?

Here are the other tips in case you are in a car accident:

1. If possible then try to get photos of both vehicles at the point of collision before they are moved.

2.Take photos of the other vehicles involved including the damaged and undamaged areas of the car.If the car seat is damaged then take a photo of that.Do the same for your car.

3. If the other parties are injured then try to get a photo of them.

4. If the other vehicle has prior body damages then ask the other driver to point this out to you. Take detailed notes of this.

5. Call the police if anyone is injured even if there is a complaint of neck
discomfort. If the other party is irate or arguing liability with you then call the police so they can make an accident report for you.

6. List the names of the street. Draw a diagram of the accident and place all vehicles involved in the picture. This should be done while it is fresh in your mind.

7. Remain calm and attend to your needs. Remember accidents do happen.

You should keep a note pad, pen and disposable camera in your car. Please make sure that you replace the camera when the expiration date arrives and keep it out of the sun and extreme heat. You want to make sure that you take clear pictures. This will keep everyone honest.

As a consumer advocate for car issues, I recommend you keep a copy of this two-part post in your car for reference so you can list the information next to each of my points.

If you have any other tips then please share them with me and I will pass them on to everyone else.

There are more auto collisions on the road during the winter season. As a car consumer helpline official, I want to make sure that all of you protect your rights in case you are involved in a car accident. The last thing that you want is for a dishonest person to take advantage of you.

Five years ago, my friends wouldn’t think twice about trading in their old vehicles for a new one. In fact, it was almost a trend with most women, and men. In the history of US Automobiles, car manufacturers have counted on this impulsive consumer behaviour to buy new cars every four or five years to keep them going.

However, living a lie, living in debt on borrowed money is akin to a house of cards. It has to fall. And, boy, it fell. Taking it with big car manufacturers like General Motors, whose fall was broken by the tax payer’s money in form of big federal payout.

Cut to present. Why are Americans not buying enough cars? Well, number one – the cost of buying, insuring or repairing a car is way too expensive.

Well, some people have it all figured out. Just buy a car out of the state. You save on state taxes. Okay, so we save a few bucks. But, we lose out in the end. Our cars are NOT protected by the California lemon law if the vehicle is purchased outside California.

Californias Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act of 1970 was the first milestone in consumer protection. It is still number one Car protection act in United States.

So, under this Lemon Law, car manufacturers have a couple of attempts to repair defective cars. If unsuccessful, they must replace your car or refund the purchase price. The legislation also made it economically viable for consumers to bring warranty suits by providing for an award of attorneys fees. the Song-Beverly Act became the model for nearly all the lemon laws that followed in other states.

California led the way once again in 1982 with the Tanner Consumer Protection Act, which specifically defined guidelines for a reasonable number of repair attempts, and again in 1991 with the Automotive Consumer Notification Act, which was meant to reduce what is known as lemon laundering (the practice of reselling lemons to unsuspecting car buyers).

Unfortunately, most states require the vehicle to be purchased in that state and the owners to be resident. Thank the lord, California doesnt require a car owner to be a resident.

If you are thinking of purchasing a car out of state to save the sales tax, you might end up with no protection at all should the car have manufacturing issues. Your car warranty will apply, but you may not be entitled to 1. Out of Warranty Repair, Replacement or Refund if the car manufacturer or car dealer is dealing with a problem or a defect that came from the factory!!
If you are a California resident and you are driving a lemon purchased in this state, the law is squarely behind you. Contact Letterchamp.com, if you have car transmission issues, car manufacturer problems, out of warranty issues.

Letterchamp has been assisting car consumers since 2005. We provide individuals who have the misfortune of purchasing a defective vehicle or goods, and who have recourse under the Lemon Law, with the consumer advocacy at cheap rates. We represent California residents of San Fransisco, San Diego, Escondido, Tracy, Cerritos, Northern CA as well as Southern Ca that include Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

As a consumer advocate, I recommend that you ask the service advisor to write on the work order that your “Car does not have any scratches or dents” when you check in the car if your vehicle is in good condition. However, if there is any pre-existing damage then have that listed too.Not everyone is as honest about their mistakes at a dealership.

By Allen Banez

A few months ago, I brought my car to the dealer for an out of warranty repair. The leather in my car had excessive premature wear and I got the manufacturer to replace it at 53,000 miles for FREE.

I checked in the car at the dealership and had the service advisor write down that the car had “No Scratches of Dents on the car” on the work order. At the end of the day, I came back to dealership to pick-up my car. I was real happy about the new leather seats but my automobile got damaged on the work floor.

I was real lucky that the Service Adviser told me that the technicians had scratched my door when they put back the seats into the car. She was very honest and said that the dealer would repair the damage and provide a loaner car for FREE.

As a member of professional consumer helpline for cars, I don’t want anyone taking advantage of my readers.

I am writing an ebook on consumer car help. And, here are few excerpts and tips on how to deal with a car dealer :

Just because its a Toyota doesnt mean it wont have problems. In fact, Toyota is the worst decision you made if you bought the 2010 model.

The last year has been the year of car manufacturer problems and car recalls.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported its popular Dodge Caliber model suffering from a sticky accelerator problem. The problem lies with the 2007 model, as it has been reported. The NHTSA website has a report on the issue that says five Dodge users have reported problems with accelerators in their cars that tend to get stuck when pressed and refuse to return to neutral position after releasing the pedal. The pedals in question were manufactured by CTS Corp, an Indiana-based supplier. Incidentally, this company also supplied the pedals that were used in the Toyota cars that were recalled a few months back.

However, both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Chrysler Group LLC have made it clear that no Dodge owner has reported any accident resulting from the sticky accelerator issues. It is a mechanical fault and not a design related one, the carmaker said in its statement. However, the company has not yet declared a recall. The NHTSA and Chrysler have differences of opinions as far as the number of affected dodge models is concerned. NHTSA feels at least 161,000 vehicles are going to be affected while Chrysler feels the number would not exceed 10000.

The owners of Dodge caliber models have been asked to approach the dealers for getting their cars inspected. Chrysler is expected to take up the matter seriously considering the fact that a similar problem led its rival Toyota Motors in deep trouble and it also had to cough up a hefty penalty.

According to Mark Huffman at ConsumerAffairs.com, ” The “sticky” accelerator problem, blamed for scores of sudden acceleration incidents in Toyotas, may also be a problem on some Chrysler vehicles. At least, federal safety investigations are exploring the possibility.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it has begun an investigation of gas pedals made by CTS Corp. for Chrysler’s 2007 Dodge Caliber. CTS also made the Toyota gas pedals that were the object of a recall of more than two million Toyota vehicles.

Chrysler sold more than 166,000 2007 Dodge Calibers. NHTSA said it has received no reports of accidents or injury involving the sticky gas pedal in 2007 Dodge Calibers.

NHTSA said it opened the investigation after receiving five complaints from drivers who said the gas pedal stuck while they were driving their Chrysler vehicles. Chrysler describes the problem as mechanical in nature, and not involving problems with cars’ electronics.

CTS is a large Indiana-based manufacturer that also supplies pedals for Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi. So far, other carmakers have reported no problems.

In September 2009, Toyota addressed the reports of sudden acceleration in some of its cars by recalling floor mats, saying they could trap the gas pedal on the floor of the vehicle. In January the automaker identified a design flaw in the pedal itself and began a massive recall to repair the pedals.

Last month Toyota agreed not to contest a $16.375 million fine for for failing to notify NHTSA of a dangerous pedal defect for almost four months. The fine, the largest civil penalty ever assessed against an auto manufacturer by NHTSA, specifically to both the “sticky pedal” and “slow to return pedal” defects, which resulted in Toyota’s massive recall.

Summers are almost upon us and like many others in California, we will have to deal with car baking in the parking lot when we go out during noon. Can you imagine the A/C not working in 80 degrees!! The truth is that our car’s cooling system not only keeps the passengers cool, but, also the engine and everything under the hood. So, a car overheating problem can be serious!

Car overheating is a common problem that may happen in any car or truck be it Toyota, Chevrolet, Fiat or Honda!

The reason could be a thermostat malfunction, radiator not functioning, a possible leak in the Air conditioning, or a broken fan. We will talk about how to repair your car when any of these conditions arise.

An automobile’s cooling arrangement is actually a collection of components that blow coolant through the engine to absorb heat, and circulating this air around the coolant. If any part of the the component stops working, it is not good news either for you or your steaming engine.

Lets first understand WHY a car overheats or the A/C doesnt function.

1. Stuck Theromostat leads to Car Overheating:

According to statistics, the number one cause for a car overheating is a stuck thermostat, broken thermostat, or defective thermostat. It can stick or freeze in the closed position blocking the flow of coolant to your engine. You can check if your thermostat is not open or stuck is to feel the upper radiator hose. Once the engine warms up, it should start functioning. If it does not warm, the thermostat is probably not opening.

2. Leak in Car’s Air Conditioning

A leak in your cars air conditioning can also cause the cooling to be ineffective. If your vehicle is loosing coolant there will not be enough left in the vehicle to keep it cool. This is easy to diagnose as the radiator will be low on fluid and there will probably be a pool of coolant on the floor of your garage. Look for leaks in the most common places like around hoses and around the welds of your radiator. If you can not find the leak you might need to take it to a shop to have the cooling system pressure tested.

3. Car overheats due to broken water pump

A faulty water pump can also cause the car to overheat. The water pump is a vital part of your cooling system since it is responsible for circulating coolant through your engine. With a faulty water pump your vehicle will not run for more than a few minutes without overheating.

4. Car doesnt cool due to defective cooling fan

The fourth cause of overheating is a bad cooling fan. There are two types of fans, electric and mechanical. The electric fan should come on automatically once the vehicle reaches operating temperature or when the A/C is turned on. If it doesn’t you should have it replaced. The mechanical fan will run all of the time but has a clutch which makes it turn faster when the engine heats up. With the car turned off the fan should not turn too easily especially when the vehicle is warm. You can also check for signs of leakage from the fan clutch. If you see any problems have it replaced.

5. Radiator Issues

The fifth cause of overheating I will talk about is a clogged radiator. Over time the radiator can accumulate deposits of rust and debris. This is especially true if radiator fluid has not been flushed on a regular basis. If you suspect a clogged radiator you should take it to a shop to have it professionally cleaned.

Those are some of the most common cause for car overheating. Dont forget, Car overheating can cause a great deal of damage to your vehicle, adding to expensive repair bills. If you have had bad service from your car dealer, you can also contact Bureau of Automotive Repair.
